COMMON SENSE (A MODERN AESOP'S TALE).

Call it class warfare,
He challenged the boisterous bullfrogs,
But common sense
In the Animal Kingdom shall prevail.
He urged that turtles and doves
Not to be considered less worthy
Than the birds-of-prey.
He thus explained.
Even one of them agreed
With him
And sent his dove
To attend the Animals’ Congress.
Hard work and responsibilities
Are to be heeded, he said.
But the Kingdom
Shall offer the worthy its assistance.
There are some kingdoms, he observed,
Not deserving the clubs and spears,
Which only but the Select can have.
But peaceful resolutions still exist, he implied.
Racoons and other conflict-of-interest scavengers
Are to be reprimanded
And nest-owners
Shall get up to three thousand Thalers in aid.
Hyenas were forewarned
To cease their crass financial fraud & mortgages
To this, he added, prosecutor-foxes shall
Thoroughly investigate abusive lending.
Instead of fighting wars
With distant kingdoms
The Leader of this Empire
Proposed to use half of the Thalers
To rebuild this Animal Kingdom,
Create more jobs & competitiveness
While the other half of Thalers
Is to pay off
The mounting debt with
The Middle Animal Kingdom.
And regulations are to be formed
To thus protect the animals
As needed, the Leader insisted,
To which a clamorous
(but hardly glamorous)
Commotion ensued
With flatulent response
By the ever-vigilant bullfrogs.
But the Kingdom’s Leader insisted:
No bailouts, no handouts top-to-bottom.
To this the bullfrogs responded:
Our Leader has sold out
To the socialist baboons,
Oy vey!
The Lion, though, was adamant & firm
The Kingdom is a democracy and not a firm,
And common sense shall thus prevail,
While the excesses of the bullfrogs one must curtail.
