DENNIS MULLIN (1948-2012)

"The interviews with Saddam Hussein and the Shah of Iran were pure theater. In Bagdad, a smiling Saddam was perched on an elevated chair assuring that he was the tallest person at a table of notables. Dennis, the second American reporter to interview him, sat at his right hand and immediately afterwards felt the session had gone well, S.H. apparently disagreed. He had the interpreter shot the following day. In Tehran, Dennis was ushered into the royal palace on the obligatory red carpet and tea was served in gold cups. The brash young American asked if he could smoke. The Shah jerked his head back and made a smacking sound…. which Dennis took as a “yes” and lit up. All present diverted their eyes to their shoes. Amazingly, he not only survived but completed a successful interview. The Shah later repeatedly requested Dennis Mullin as his preferred question and answer guy." "More recently, on April 3, O’Donnell unleashed a despicable anti-Mormon snarl (a “ridiculous” and “demented” religion) which reached a new low, even for MSNBC. O'Donnell dismissed Mormonism as a religion "invented" by Joseph Smith, to excuse his infidelity.  Shifting to his real target, he sneeringly added that Mitt Romney "says he believes" in his religion. ECOLOGY CORNER: We all agree. What could be more praiseworthy than defending Planet Earth and/or life on it? But today’s Environmentalist Movement, however noble its goals (and perhaps unwittingly) has hatched, harbored and given cover to some of the most unsavory elements in American society.  Anti-war and anarchism of the 1960s has resurfaced as Eco-Terrorism. “Although ample precedent for radical protest has long existed in America, the FBI pegs the rampage of organized “direct action” arson, theft, vandalism, harassment and violent physical attacks allegedly to save the environment or hype animal rights, as beginning only in 1977. Jockey-sized Jimmy “Bud” Thomas passed away in 2007 at age 92. He had long been a cheerful presence at Georgio’s basement pub in Washington DC. Jimmy was forever upbeat, exceptionally modest, spunky, and had no time for bluster. Few of his fellow patrons, however, knew that beneath that weather-worn L.L. Bean jacket beat the heart of a lion. He was in the thick of seven World War II campaigns, including four major invasions: The North African Campaign, 8 November 1942; The Sicilian Campaign, 10 July 1943; The Italian Campaign, 9 September 1943; The Normandy Campaign, 6 June 1944; The Northern France Campaign 22 March 1944; The Rhineland Campaign, 15 September 1944; and The Central Germany Campaign, 22 March 1945. Jimmy, the diminutive nonagenarian, was a charter member of what Tom Brokaw called “The Greatest Generation any society has ever produced." (Left click on image for full story).

From the Boston Herald, May  26   2011: “(US Rep Barney)Frank said he helped his former longtime companion, Herb Moses, land a job at Fannie Mae in 1991 after Moses graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from Dartmouth College. Frank said he was approached by a Fannie Mae executive and vouched for Moses, who formerly worked as an economist in the Department of Agriculture.”
